Kitchen Baking with Red!

This is another of my infamous red displays, featuring a red baking theme.  I found the two thermoses in the back of the picture about 3-4 years ago at a local antique sale and I just had to buy them; they perfectly personify the 1950s vibe that I adore.

The red Calumet can is actually my mom’s- she collects these like nobody’s business and I commandeered one of hers that she wasn’t using anymore. J  When I saw the bright, shiny red nut chopper I just had to grab it up- I had never found one in such great shape, and I haven’t seen a red one since then!  The cookie cutters I’ve been amassing for quite some time now- whenever I find one with a red handle I try to grab it up for my burgeoning collection.

My absolute favorite find, though, is the terrific cherry napkin everything is displayed on- it was actually a gift from an antique dealer I know!  She collects cherry things, too, and after I had been buying for her for a few years and she discovered my love affair of cherries she graciously gave me one from her collection!

Earth Laughs in Flowers

Ralph Waldo Emerson had the correct idea with this quote; every year I marvel at the beauty that my garden can produce- even as I make a mad scrabble to stay ahead of the weeding!

I found a new picnic table for in the backyard which I was thrilled with beyond belief!  I have a passion for outdoor goodies, and seeing as I lacked anything in this corner of my yard, I felt my find was terrific.  Those daisies that are busy blooming away in the background have probably quadrupled in size from when I bought them just two years ago.  I had been looking for daisies for years, and then when I found some I bought two gallon containers of them- yep, all those Daisies are from just TWO gallon containers!
This is my vegetable garden, which I created after getting rid of the old swimming pool.  It took me a few weeks of staring at a nearly 30-foot round sand pile to figure what I wanted to do with the space, then another week to figure out how to lay out the raised beds.  I must have come up with a dozen configurations before settling on this!  I love it, and I LOVE that I can get fresh veggies right out of my back door now!
Don't you just love this bench?  I love primitive blue, and have been slowly collecting watering cans for the past few years (although can two cans really be called a collection?!?).  When I spotted this bench I just knew it would be perfect for my little collection, plus because the bench isn't too big, I actually look like I have a collection!

A Hot, Hot, HOT Rednesday!

Oh boy is it blazing hot today!  Nearly makes me miss winter... wait, nope, the heat is better than freezing rain and three feet of snow!  Although there is such a thing as too hot... like, when the air is steamy from the heat and just sitting on a park bench makes you sweat (and I don't mean sweat as in “glistening"... I mean SWEAT).  On a brighter note, though, I was able to spend most (ok, all but an hour watering my flowers) of my day inside.  I spruced up my crafting room a bit and tweaked what I think of as my 'red' zone- I collect 1950s red kitchen collectables and cherries, which I corraled in one of the corner of my crafting room.

This picture shows a three tier stand I found at an auction- nobody seemed to want it but I sure did- it was the perfect red color!  I keep photo boxes on the shelves and my cherry bread box on top.  I LOVE that bread box, even though it was in pretty bad shape: it was missing the knob when I spotted it but I rigged together a system using a glass knob and piece of plastic on the inside of the door to keep it closed.

Hiding behind the Pyrex dishes and cleanser bottle is a milk glass plate with cherries painted on it.  I happened across this plate at our local flea market- the lady only had one, but one was all I really needed: after all how many sets of dishes can I possibly collect? (P.S. don't answer that- I'm sure no good can come from any response!)
It's another Hot, Hot, HOT day outside- even the dog is more interested in sitting in the kitty tree LOOKING outside than actually being outside!

Weekend Finds

I'll start with my favorite finds from this weekend, a collection of children’s books dating back to 1896 and 1905. I had heard about an estate sale in a town that was a little over an hour away and rushed over because they were reported to have tables of ironstone, excited beyond belief to add to my stash. The ironstone was beautiful... and utterly out of my price point. Fortunately, I was able to comfort myself with a small horde of children’s books, yay!

On my way home I stopped at a few yard sales, something I rarely do... I just don't have the patience to stop 20 different times for baby clothes and modern household stuff. The first sale I stopped at was filled with the typical yardsale suspects... cookbooks from the 90s, tools and a couple of broken chairs. Then I spotted it... a composition dolly. I approached slowly so as to not draw attention to myself, checking the state of disrepair she was in and with trembling hands I nabbed her... only THREE DOLLARS! Granted, she looks as though she must have a splitting headache from her head injury, but with a cute little bonnet one will never know!

And one last picture with a few more finds I procured this weekend, a little glass jar for honey, a tiny tin of nutmeg and a pewter spoon to spruce up my pie safe!

I would like to invite everybody to see my booth at the Antique Market of Williamston, located in Williamston, Michigan.  With the summer season upon us I chose many of my summer and travel themed goodies to bring in.
As always, I had to convince myself that I couldn't keep every pretty travel goodie that I had- although it was hard!
Just like any good dealer, I started out collecting until my collections grew so big I had to sell "just a few things" to make room.... And now I'm always on the hunt for the next sale for more goodies to sell!
